Dr. Demola Okeowo’s legal practice focuses significantly on administrative law generally, and specifically on immigration, refugee, and citizenship law, employment, labour, human rights, and residential tenancy. He has experience in these areas of law as well as advanced degrees in law that bolster and complement this experience. 

His professional, volunteer, and academic experiences demonstrate that he has the skill set necessary to assist clients within his areas of expertise and beyond. With legal trainings and experience acquired in Africa, Europe and North America, Dr. Okeowo is well prepared to understand and unravel complex legal issues and resolve them. He has represented clients with commendable results in refugee matters, temporary and permanent residence applications, inadmissibility issues and detention review applications, citizenship applications, passport and refugee travel document applications, judicial review applications, matters involving terminated or departing employees, wrongful dismissal, the drafting of employment agreements and workplace policies, occupational health and safety issues, human rights litigations, residential tenancy matters, breach of contract litigation, and other matters.

Dr. Okeowo has prepared legal submissions on behalf of clients in proceedings before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada, Social Security Tribunal of Canada under the Employment Insurance Act and its Regulation, WorkSafeBC, Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board, BC Labour Relations Board, BC Residential Tenancy Branch, BC Human Rights Tribunal, Canadian Human Rights Commission, BC Provincial and Supreme Courts, and the Federal Court of Canada. In each of these cases, Dr. Okeowo thoroughly reviewed the home statutes and regulations of the applicable administrative body, including cases and other relevant legislation and policies not only to advise clients but to also put up adequate legal representation for them.

Teaching engagements, paper presentations at local and international conferences, courts and tribunal appearances, and daily speaking engagements with clients have not only developed Dr. Okeowo’s advocacy and interpersonal skills but have honed them.

On a Personal Note...

Dr. Okeowo is married with three children. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Okeowo engages in public motivational speaking. He enjoys staying active by riding his bike with his children, playing keyboard and drums, and playing soccer, squash, badminton, and basketball. He also loves to watch movies as a form of relaxation. Having lived in 3 continents, he is an avid traveller and is always looking forward to his next adventure.
